The thread (15 x 1) is a standard size with all Merkel rifles allowing for a moderator or muzzle brake to be fitted. The K5 has a adjustable trigger for both pull weight and length of pull and a fluted barrel slightly reduces the weight. The diameter of the barrel is 17mm and a perfect hunting companion. Using a short compact mounted scope is perfectly adequate  for a rifle of this style , and for the .270 with its 20 inch barrel the recoil is acceptable. As it is a single shot brake barrel system, there is a top tang mounted opening lever, and de-cocking safety. The Floating breech face locking system engages directly into the barrel with further engagement when the two lugs extend down from the block, This locks into the action for an incredibly smooth, tight and firm lock up making it very safe.
