The K5 has a adjustable trigger for both pull weight and length of pull and a fluted barrel slightly reduces the weight. The diameter of the barrel is 17mm and a perfect hunting companion. Using a short compact mounted scope is perfectly adequate for a rifle of this style , and for the .270 with its 20 inch barrel the recoil is acceptable. As it is a single shot brake barrel system, there is a top tang mounted opening lever, and de-cocking safety. The Floating breech face locking system engages directly into the barrel with further engagement when the two lugs extend down from the block, This locks into the action for an incredibly smooth, tight and firm lock up making it very safe. The Merkel K5 has become an extremely well sort after rifle among UK hunters these days as more shooters recognise its qualities and ability in the field from fox to Red stags and trips further afield in Europe and beyond due to its versatility and calibers ranging from 223, 243, 6.5 Creedmoor 308, 30,06 to name a few of the more popular offerings among the growing comunity of Merkel shooters.
