The UKPSA Home Countries Championship – Round 1 took place on April 2025 at North Cotes Butts Shooting Ground, near Grimsby, setting the tone for another competitive season of practical shotgun shooting in the UK.
This Level 3, 12-stage event tested shooters across a demanding mix of birdshot, buckshot, and slug stages, bringing together some of the best talent from across the country.
Among them were Jon and James Williamson, the father-son duo proudly shooting as Team Williamson – and sponsored by Mossberg and Viking Arms.
Jon Williamson – Experience Meets Endurance
At 72 years old, Jon Williamson remains one of the most seasoned competitors on the UK practical shotgun circuit. Competing in the Standard Division with his Mossberg 940 JM Pro, Jon tackled all 12 stages with grit and determination, despite waiting on a shoulder operation for a torn ligament.
Out of more than 70 competitors in his division, Jon took 1st place Grand Senior and finished 32nd overall, achieving 60% of the top score – a result that’s not just respectable, but a testament to his experience and resilience.
James Williamson – A Dominant Win in Modified Division
Competing in the Modified Division, James Williamson delivered a commanding performance, taking first place with a margin of nearly 9% over the nearest competitor. Shooting the same Mossberg 940 JM Pro, James won 7 out of the 12 stages, showcasing both precision and pace.
His performance stood out even further in the Overall category, which includes competitors from the Open Division—home to the fastest, magazine-fed shotguns and some of the most elite shooters in the UK. Out of 136 competitors, James placed 3rd overall—a remarkable result against some of the quickest on the circuit.
